2021 Road Construction

Notice to Residents

I would like to inform you of improvements that are scheduled to be made to five roads in Hampden beginning on July 12, 2021, weather permitting. I hope you find this information helpful in answering questions you may have as you see this work progress. This years projects will be funded through a combination of the Massachusetts Chapter 90 Program and the Hampden Highway Department paving accounts.  Streets scheduled for improvements this year are: Allen Street (from Circleview Drive to East Longmeadow town line), Kelly Lane, Country Club Drive, North Road (from #192 to #256) and South Monson Road.

This work will consist of milling an inch and a half to two inches off the existing paved surface, on the above listed roads, during the week of July 12, 2021. In the following weeks, repairs and upgrades will be made to the catch basins and drainage systems as needed. RS1 tack coat and top course of bituminous concrete will then be applied in late July-early August. Finally, lawns and driveway aprons will be corrected where appropriate, and new traffic markings will be painted if necessary.

Generally, work will be performed during the hours of 7am to 5pm, however these times may vary as the project and weather requires. All roads will remain open to through traffic during construction and paving, however, these projects will require a large amount of truck traffic and could cause some minor delays.

I hope this is only a minor inconvenience to you and ask for your patience and cooperation. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the above, please feel free to contact me at any time at (413) 566-8842.

Sincerely,

Mark F. Langone

Highway Superintendent
