Snow & Ice Control Operations

We ask for your patience and cooperation. We have several miles of roadway to clear of snow and ice and your street may not be the first street on a route. Our routes have been established over the years and drivers are familiar with your neighborhoods.

Typically, priority is given to main roads and hills (including school bus routes) in salting and plowing operations. Once they are passable, we move into the local side streets. We currently have 4 salting / sanding routes and 5 plow routes. Residents are responsible to clear their sidewalks within 24 hours from the end of the event. Occasionally, street plows knock over residential delivery mailboxes by direct contact or projecting snow. Please review our Mailbox Repair / Replacement Policy.

Please take a moment to review our Town By-Laws. Specifically, Chapter IX (Section 10). This by-law was adopted on April 28, 2008 and states:

"No person other than an employee in the service of the town, or an employee in the service of an independent contractor acting for the town, shall pile, push or plow snow or ice onto a town road so as to impede the flow of traffic on such way. Whoever violates this section shall be punished by a fine of $50 for the first offense, $100 for the second offense, and $200 for the third offense. Each day, or potion thereof, that such a violation continues, shall constitute a separate offense. This by-law may be enforced through the non-criminal disposition procedure contained in Chapter XI of the Town of Hampden General Bylaws."
