Help Needed

The Hampden Conservation Commission is an appointed board consisting of residents who volunteer their time to promote stewardship of local lands. The commission follows several state and local regulations to  function correctly. Their job is implemented by the Massachusetts Wetland Protection Act, the Hampden Wetland By-Laws and Regulations, and other associated regulations, such as 401 Water Quality Certification, through the Department of Environmental Protection. We also act as a checkpoint and liaison to the Massachusetts Endangered Species program through Mass. Fish and Wildlife, and the Forestry program through the Mass. Dept. of Conservation and Recreation.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS ! Many of the members have served on the commission for more than a decade and are ready to pass their positions on to new individuals. Training for commissioners is offered by the Mass. Association of Conservation Commissioners (MACC). The training is mostly on zoom and a certificate will be given when training is completed. The commission is able to fund most of this training. If you desire to help protect our wetland resources, including the critters that live in these areas, please consider attending a meeting to see if this is a path you would like to pursue. We meet in the Town House auditorium the third Wednesday of each month, unless a special meeting is required. The meetings are also on zoom. The zoom address can be found on the town web page. Meetings are also posted on line at www.hampdenma.gov. They are also posted in the kiosk outside the Town House and on the town calendar.
