About Us

The Hampden Fire Department proudly protects 5,171 people in 19.6 square miles on a volunteer basis. All fire fighters work full time jobs and respond when they are available. The Fire Fighters work out of one station with 6 apparatus.

You can view our apparatus here.

Hampden does not have a town-wide pressurized public water supply and therefore does not have water mains and fire hydrants. Fire water must be transported to the scene by tanker trucks which are refilled from “water holes” by pumper trucks. The Town installed a “dry hydrant” at Mill Pond in 2009. The dry hydrant allows water to be pumped from Mill Pond without cutting holes through ice in winter and minimizing impacts to the pond ecosystem and wetland resource area in summer by piping a connection close to the road; mitigating the need to drive trucks onto the pond embankment.

If your school or group would like to arrange a tour of the Fire House feel free to leave a message at 566-3314 and someone will get back to you.
